It's time to be Lady

-

Sexism is present in every sphere of social living, and yes, even today, in the year domini 2014, even in the bartending industry. It is unfortunate to realize this, as more and more barladies are outperforming their (male precisely) colleagues in competitions and making their very personal touch felt beyond the bar. Just think of Eleonora Massari who won the Italian barMAN championships promoted to 'Tirreno Ct' and Chiara Beretta, who prevailed over her colleagues at the Campari Competition: we mention only them because they won recent competitions, because if we went further back the names would be many.

It must be acknowledged that there are now several events and as many competitions related to barladys, and they always arouse a great hype because of the incredible technique, professionalism and imagination with which they make their drinks. The only question remains as to why the little men do not always clash directly with the fairer sex, and on this point we could make several hypotheses: fear of failure in the confrontation? Fear of the distraction that competing alongside them would cause? Or perhaps because as true knights they prefer to devote more attention to them by creating special competitions to enhance them? Probably this hypothesis is the most credible, as more and more often the talents of these professionals are recognized and they gain the respect of their colleagues because of the hard work they do and the fact that they know how to stand up for themselves by proving it in the field.

A symptom of this steady growth has been the increasing creation of industry utensils related to the female figure: glasses take the shape of decollete or are dyed dark red like a seductive lipstick, dishes are shaped like waves, recalling not only the sea, but also and especially the shapes that only a woman can have... Not all objects have been transformed, but many are discovering the appeal of how different they can be when held by a woman instead of a man. Dear knights, just so you know what we mean, tell us if you could ever resist the allure of a barlady shaking with the most classic silver boston a drink like a Vodka Martini: perhaps some of you could, but certainly not James Bond.
