It was supposed to be a great night. It was. It could not have been otherwise given the commitment and publicity battage in recent weeks lavished
by the actors involved in the "Barista of the Year 2011" contest.
In one of the trendiest venues in the province, the glittering "Avila," the highly attended event finally came to a close: first was the duo Alessandra Costa-Jole
Cobianchi, "Bar gelateria '900," Pianello Val Tidone; second Fabio Pescaroli, "Breakbar," Via San Francesco 9, Piacenza; third Eleonora Berselli, "Bar Davide," Cadeo.
This contest has had a shining past, has a glittering present, will have an equally bright future as between the lines anticipated by Enrica Prati. Because it involves many people, has winning formula, enhances local realities, consolidates friendships, ineffably connects media and commerce by opening interesting perspectives.
It is not little.
As pointed out by Libertà Director Gaetano Rizzuto: <<The bar is a great social place, a point of aggregation for young and old. They are in the city, more so in the villages. The battle has been very hard. It's a game that "Libertà" proposes because ours is always
more a newspaper of the people, also to support the positive role of bars in society>>.
In the climax there was a sporty, goliardic atmosphere, thanks also to the verve of presenter Daniele Losi, who began by pointing out how <<this is the most read evening thanks to Libertà, most viewed thanks to Telelibertà, most sparkling thanks to the sponsors>>.
The short wait for the names of the winners was diluted thanks to the rich buffet, nice challenges among the top bartenders for "Best Cocktail" (awarded Damiano Condina, Bar Silver, via Bersani 29, Lugagnano Val d'Arda, for the refined "Non-alcoholic Mohito") and "Best Coffee" (awarded Massimiliano Carapia, Caffè Nevada, via Caduti sul lavoro, Piacenza).
After distributing 10 rich prizes by drawing lots among all the voters, Losi - skilled in creating suspense given also uncertainty and continuous overtaking
among the candidates - finally revealed the magnificent three among the top 15. And at the end there were winners, awardees, sponsors, authorities, organizers including Enrica Prati and Donatella Ronconi on the stage united by contagious cheerfulness, in a triumph of notes with the unfailing We are the champions by Queen or the enthralling The final countdown by the not-forgotten Europe.
No one was disappointed, everyone was delighted to have participated in this stimulating, very democratic initiative, open to all because each venue always coagulates hundreds of fans, supporters and sympathizers thanks in part to the glue formed by this newspaper. The "Bartender of the Year" game quickly involved thousands of people through coupons and was extraordinarily successful. It revalues uri profession that until a little
while ago, especially in the villages, guaranteed a lasting reference to the community. Gathering at the bar on weekdays meant serenity, awareness of having accomplished one's job, on holidays seeking recreation perhaps between card games.
Now bars have perhaps lost their popular aura and flavor of everyday life but have acquired an elegant, often sophisticated appearance, suitable for dialogue and confiding among and with friends.
